Lincoln City player suspended over FA betting charge

The English Football Association (FA) has suspended Lincoln City player Chris Maguire after he found he broke wagering rules.

The 33-year-old is believed to have made a total of 52 bets on matches between March 2017 and February 2022.

The FA said this violated rule E8 on wagering. This bans players, referees and coaches above level 8 of the English football pyramid from betting on matches around the world.

Individuals found to have violated this rule face fines, suspensions, or bans from the game.

Lincoln City, who play in Ligue 1, have also confirmed that Maguire has been suspended by the club “without prejudice” until further notice.

Scottish forward Maguire signed for Lincoln City in the summer of 2017 and scored five goals in his first season at the club, including a hat-trick against former team Sunderland.

Maguire has two caps for Scotland and has also played for Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United and Rotherham United.
