Gamstop self-exclusions reach 300,000 since launch – Social responsibility

The UK self-exclusion scheme Gamstop has recorded a total of over 300,000 registrations since the project began in April 2018.

In the first six months of 2022, a total of 43,500 people enrolled in this scheme. This means that we had an average of over 7,000 registrations per month.

This is a 9% increase from the same period last year.

According to Gumstop, the number of registrations in winter is usually the highest, but the trend is that more people participated in the second quarter of 2022 than in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The organization has released a report following another delay to the British White Paper on Gambling. This is a document that points the way to legislative reform by calling for a renewal of the country’s 2005 gambling legislation. Initially scheduled to be released last year, it is now scheduled to be released in the fall.

Fiona Palmer, CEO of Gamstop, said more needs to be done to protect those at risk.

“Our latest data suggests that gambling-related harm remains a serious problem, and it is widely accepted that action is needed to protect the most at-risk people. “She said. “Currently, we average over 7,000 new registrants each month, an almost double-digit year-over-year increase.”

Palmer added that both increased harm and increased awareness can affect increased registration.

“I’m not sure why, but internal analysis shows that the high amount of self-exclusion is evidence of a persistent prevalence of gambling-related harm, raising awareness of Gamstop. That’s what Palmer said.

“We look forward to seeing the government’s recommendations on amending the gambling law in the next white paper scheduled for this fall.”
