Former cricketer handed suspended ban for betting – Sports integrity

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has issued a six-month suspension to former professional cricketer Ryan Davies after he was found to have broken rules by betting on matches for six years. .

The 25-year-old, who has not played first-class cricket since 2018, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a string of bets he made between 2015 and 2020.

The former right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper has bet 120 times in 2015, 16 times in 2016, 7 times in 2017 and another 38 times in 2020 for a total of 181 bets.

By betting on the match, Davis violated Article 2.2.1 of the ECB Anti-Corruption Regulations in force at the time. As a result, the ECB issued a suspended ban.

The ECB issued several easings, including Davis admitting the charges when he was first contacted by the ECB, showing remorse and repentance throughout the investigation, and that there were no bets related to the matches he played. He pointed out that the sanctions took into account factors.

Davis was also found to be suffering from a severe gambling disorder at the time of the related crimes and sought professional help.

The six-month suspension will be suspended for two years from 6 May 2022 and will only become effective upon Davis’ return to first-class cricket. The ban will also be triggered if Davis commits further violations under his ECB anti-corruption laws during that period.

Davis began his playing career at Kent, making his first-class debut in June of that year. He played for Somerset from his 2016 to 2017 he played for Durham in 2018.
