Portuguese online gambling revenue jumps 23.6% YoY in Q1 – Online sports betting

Portuguese regulator Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogosdo Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) reported a 23.6% year-on-year increase in online gambling revenue in the first quarter of 2022.

Revenues for the three months to the end of March were € 158.6 million (£ 135.3 million / $ 161.7 million), up from € 128.3 million in the year-ago quarter.

Online casino revenue for the quarter was € 80.9 million, up 37.6% from € 58.8 million in the first quarter of 2021, and online sports betting revenue was also up 11.8% to € 77.70 million.

Looking at player spending, consumers bet a total of € 2.21 billion at online casinos in three months, up 37.3% year-on-year, while online sports bets fell 12.8% to € 369.4 million. became.

Of the total amount bet on online casinos, when categorizing players’ gambling habits, 78.1% were slot games, 8.8% were French roulette and 5.1% were blackjack.

When it comes to sports betting, 69.9% of online bets are in soccer, 12.4% in basketball and tennis, and the remaining 5.3% in other sports.

Other outstanding figures for the first quarter were 215,600 new online gambling accounts opened during the period, down 34.6% from last year, but by the end of the first quarter, a total of 118,900 people were in all forms. Self-excluded from regulated online gambling.
