The Belgian government plans to introduce a new deposit limit for online gambling. Players can deposit up to € 200 (£ 171/204) per week for each licensed website.
The Royal Decree published in the Belgian Government Bulletin will come into effect on October 20, and deposit restrictions will apply to all players in all industries.
The decree states that every week, calculated during the last 7 days of activity, it will move continuously, and when the decree comes into force in October, the limit for all players will be reset to € 200.
However, the decree also provides for players to require an increase in their deposit limit. The operator in question must first notify the Belgian Game Rating and Administration (BGC). Then check with the National Bank of Belgium to see if the player is listed as a default payment in the National Bank of Belgium’s Central Personal Credit Register.
If the player is not on the list, the deposit limit may be removed 3 days after the request is made. That is, the player can deposit an unlimited amount of money to the operator.
BGC will continue to monitor players whose deposit restrictions have been lifted to ensure that payments are not the default. If the player is flagged, the weekly deposit limit will be reinstated.
Similarly, players can request a deposit limit of less than € 200. This should be handled immediately by the operator. Such requests must be made to each operator for whom the player has an account.
“To avoid the risk of becoming a problematic gambler and keep the game fun, we recommend that you don’t spend more than 5% of your income for this purpose,” the regulator said. “If you win € 2,000, this means that your deposit limit must not exceed € 25 per week.”
The new royal decree last month after the Belgian National Council upheld the interpretation of many BGC rules, including a decision to enforce deposit restrictions, even though the planned steps to raise deposit restrictions could not yet be implemented. come.
However, it also overturned some restrictions, such as the minimum self-exclusion time limit.
