Sports Interaction secures Ontario licence after Entain acquisition

Canadian online sports betting brand Sports Interaction has become the latest operator to receive an internet gaming license from the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO).

The new license will allow the operator to deploy Sportsinteraction.com sites and offer sports betting to consumers statewide.

Sports Interaction joins a number of other brands in securing a license in Ontario, which opened its legal online gambling market in April this year. Before the market opened, Sports Interaction was a leading brand in Ontario’s gray market.

Bally’s, PokerStars, SkillOnNet and BetVictor are the latest licensees, theScore, PointsBet, Bet365 Approved before the market opened.

Earlier this year, Entain acquired Avid Gaming, the business behind Sports Interaction, from Middlebrook Investments Limited in a C$300 million deal.

Avid Gaming has exclusively leased Sports Interaction to Kahnawà:ke’s Mohawk Council and the Mohawk Online Socioeconomic Initiative. Sports Interaction operates in Canada through Mohawk Online, with offices in Kahnawà:ke and Ireland, and is headquartered in Jersey.

Entain was already active in Canada through the market’s Bwin and Party brands.

Avid Gaming applied for an Ontario license prior to the acquisition.
