BetMakers CEO optimistic as revenue rockets after Sportech acquisition

BetMakers Chief Executive Officer Todd Buckingham said the business is now “undoubtedly robust, with a single We are independent of contract and strategy.”

The business delivered a profit of A$91.7 million for the financial year ended 30 June, although losses have increased since the transaction.

Global betting services, which previously dominated Betmaker’s revenue, increased 179.3% to A$19.5 million.

However, due to acquisition-led growth in other segments, it was no longer the primary source of revenue for the business.
Instead, the global tote division, acquired from Sportech last year, became the new leader. Tote’s revenue was A$46.9 million from 2020, up from just A$1.7 million a year earlier as the acquisition was completed in the final week of 2021.

BetMakers Global Racing Network brought in A$4.1 million, up 28%.

Cost of goods sold also increased, but increased more slowly, from A$9.3 million to A$25.4 million, with a gross profit of A$66.3 million. That was more than six times his total for the same period last year.

However, costs also skyrocketed after the acquisition.

Employee benefits increased to A$46.8 million, five times the previous year’s total, and equity-based payments nearly six times the previous year’s total to A$71 million, BetMakers lost A$96.3 million before tax issued. This compares to his pre-tax loss of A$20.9 million in 2020-2021.

After receiving tax benefits of A$7.1 million, BetMakers’ final loss was A$89.2 million. This was five times his loss in the previous year.

Towards the end of the fiscal year, BetMakers secured a significant contract with a venture headed by media giant News Corp. It said this could lead to revenues of up to A$300 million over five years.

After the end of the period, the consortium involved changed the deal, acquiring betting brand TexBet, increasing the maximum amount of revenue that BetMaker can receive from its operations.
