Uruguay’s senate passes bill to legalise online gambling –

Uruguay’s online gambling bill is one step closer to legislation after it was approved by the Senate yesterday (August 16th).

The bill was debated in parliament yesterday and Uruguayan senators voted in favor of its implementation.

The bill has now been sent to the country’s House of Commons for further consideration.

If passed, the bill will allow the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Directorate General of Casinos to regulate online gambling in Uruguay.

A nationwide registry is maintained to monitor all online gambling providers.

A fund has also been created within the General Directorate of Casinos, with a minimum of 5% and a maximum of 8% of total revenues to be donated to prevent online gambling harm and to fund treatment.

Licensed operators who fail to comply with the regulations set out in the bill can be subject to warnings, fines of UYU 10,000 (£206.60/€245.20) to UYU100,000 (£2,066/€2,451) or license suspension. There is a nature.

A passed law comes into force the day after its regulations are approved by the Uruguayan executive branch.

In 2017 Uruguay passed a law banning the operation of offshore gaming websites in the country.
